A website grade on every new Kit subscriber
When someone joins your Kit list, SEO Score API checks their company website and writes the result back to the subscriber as custom fields. Segment by grade, personalise a welcome email with their top fix, or start an automation for sites that need help.
The custom fields we add
| Field | Type | What it holds |
|---|---|---|
seo_score | Text | The website's SEO score out of 100, as a whole number. |
seo_grade | Text | The letter grade, A+ to F. |
seo_top_fix | Text | The single most useful fix, in plain English. |
seo_checked_at | Text | The day we checked the site, as YYYY-MM-DD. |
Use them in emails as {{ subscriber.seo_score }},
{{ subscriber.seo_grade }} and {{ subscriber.seo_top_fix }}.
If the fields already exist in your Kit account, we use them rather than adding copies.
Set it up in two minutes
- Create a free SEO Score API account at seoscoreapi.com.
- In Kit, open Settings, then Developer, and add a new API key. Copy it straight away: Kit shows it only once.
- In your SEO Score API dashboard, open "Email platform sync", choose Kit, paste the key and click Connect. If you keep websites in a custom field, enter its key.
- That's it. Subscribers who join from now on are graded, and the four fields appear in Kit on their own.
Ideas
- Agencies and web designers: send a "your site scored 54, here is the first fix" welcome email to every lead graded C or lower.
- Creators selling to businesses: split new sign-ups by grade and send each group the right offer.
- Anyone: put
{{ subscriber.seo_top_fix }}in your welcome email.
Questions
Which website do you grade?
The subscriber's website or company custom field if you have one (you can name a custom field), otherwise the domain of their work email. Gmail, Outlook and other free or throwaway mailboxes are skipped, so they never use an audit.
Why are all four fields text?
Kit custom fields have no type, so every value is stored as text. The score is a whole number written as text and the date is written as YYYY-MM-DD.
What does it cost?
Each newly graded website uses one audit from your SEO Score API plan. The free plan includes 20 audits a month; paid plans start at $5 a month for 200 audits. A second subscriber from the same company within 7 days gets the stored result at no cost.
Does it grade my existing subscribers?
No. It grades subscribers who join after you connect. A subscriber who still has to confirm a double opt-in is graded once they confirm.
What happens when I run out of audits?
New subscribers wait and are graded when your plan has audits again. Nothing is lost.
Which Kit plans work?
Any Kit plan that includes API access. Kit refuses API keys on plans without it, and we tell you so when you connect.
What do you store?
Your Kit API key, encrypted, and the website host and result for each graded domain. We read a subscriber's email and custom fields only to find a website, and we change only the four fields above. Disconnecting removes our webhook from your Kit account.
