If you sell to businesses, the most useful thing to know about a new subscriber is usually not their name. It is what shape their website is in. An agency, a web designer or a marketing consultant can write a very different welcome email to someone whose site scores 92 than to someone whose site scores 48 and has no meta description.
That information now lands on the subscriber by itself. Connect your email platform to SEO Score API once, and every person who joins your list afterwards gets four new fields:
| Field | What it holds |
|---|---|
seo_score |
The website's SEO score out of 100 |
seo_grade |
The letter grade, A+ to F |
seo_top_fix |
The single most useful fix, in plain English |
seo_checked_at |
The day we checked the site |
It works with three platforms today: MailerLite, Kit (formerly ConvertKit) and Brevo (formerly Sendinblue).
How it works
- You paste an API key from your email platform into your SEO Score API dashboard, under "Email platform sync".
- We create the four fields in your account (or reuse them if they already exist) and register a webhook so your platform tells us when someone new joins.
- When a subscriber joins, we work out their website, run a full audit, and write the result back to that subscriber. It usually takes a few seconds.
Nothing changes in your sign-up forms. The subscriber never sees any of this.
Which website gets graded
We look for a website in this order:
- a custom field you name, if you keep websites in one;
- a field called
website,company_website,url,domainor similar; - the domain of the subscriber's work email.
Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and other free or throwaway mailboxes are skipped, so a personal address never uses an audit. If two people from the same company join within 7 days, the second one gets the stored result at no cost.
What to do with the fields
Segment by grade. Build a segment of everyone graded C or lower. Those are the people most likely to need help, and the ones an agency should reach out to first.
Personalise the welcome email. Drop the top fix straight into the copy:
Thanks for signing up. We took a quick look at your site, and the first thing we'd fix is: (their top fix)
The exact merge tag depends on your platform. Each integration page lists them: Kit uses {{ subscriber.seo_top_fix }}, Brevo uses {{ contact.SEO_TOP_FIX }}, and MailerLite uses {$seo_top_fix}.
Start an automation. Trigger a short sequence for low scores that ends in an offer to fix the site, and a different one for strong sites that talks about growth instead.
What it costs
Each newly graded website uses one audit from your SEO Score API plan. The free plan includes 20 audits a month, which is enough to try it on a small list. Paid plans start at $5 a month for 200 audits. If you run out, new subscribers wait and are graded when your plan has audits again. Nothing is lost.
What it doesn't do
It grades people who join after you connect. It does not go back through your existing list. A grade is a snapshot of the day we checked, not a monitor: if you want to watch a site over time, use score monitoring instead.
Set it up
Create a free account, then follow the steps on the page for your platform: MailerLite, Kit or Brevo. You can see everything else SEO Score API connects to on the integrations page.
